This is what we've done in my house for a long time, I highly recommend it. At least worth a try, very low one time set up costs and then will definitely save you money long term! Essentially once set up all that you need to pay for is an internet connection, which most of us already have and pay for.
A couple of other suggestions I use our home pc/tvs for that aren't mentioned on the image are;
- To display photographs when we have friends over, host parties etc, think of the TV as a giant digital photo frame. I also have a slideshow set as the screensaver which is nice sometimes to reminisce.
- Using Google images and YouTube videos we often sit and go through the letters of the alphabet or numbers, kids enjoy learning with visual stimulation and some of the videos on YouTube are far better than the things they use in nurseries.
- Finally the image above doesn't do justice to the ease and multitasking features that doing this creates. Just imagine, listening to your favourite track, whilst shopping on-line, checking your banking, skyping with a friend and checking your email, all in one browser window. Then imagine whilst you were doing all that in the background you were downloading a movie for the night, your kids game was updating and your phone and camera were uploading and backing up. Then imagine you were doing a whole bunch of other things you can do with a PC and imagine doing them all at the same time on one device that you have complete control over?
If you MUST still watch programming, then at least watch it under your own control.
